Naiadeen Giant Mantis Shrimp
When on Naiad, watch out for the mantis shrimp. They’re the size of dolphins, they hunt in packs, and they have a nasty spear- or hammer-like set of appendages. Usually they use these to crack open shell whales, but if your submarine’s repellent features (infrared, yellow, and crimson strobes, subsonic pulses) fail, then they might just mistake your ship for prey, which would be bad for you.
Very, very bad.
On the other hand, mantis shrimp meat is meaty, sweet and naturally salty, and is thus widely prised by chefs and gourmands from across the cluster. In particular, the “Sea & Tree” combination of a mantis shrimp tail steak with a side of (small whole arboreal mammal) is a common dish in the restaraunts of the casinos on Aldo.
